If you are having number of computers in your office that are all networked togather and share the same internet connection and you want to maintain secrecy for your files, that is you want to hide from other users on the network from accessing your data?? Yes if you feel insecure than you can easily hide your shared file in windows XP from accessing other users on the network. You can assign network passwords in Windows 98 but in windows xp you can’t do that. Basically Windows Xp is having one feature with shared files. That is share all or share nothing. But Windows XP doesn’t have a feature which can secure a single folder. Well from the below trick you can hide shared file or folder in windows xp.
1) Right click on the folder or file which you want to secured and choose sharing and security.
2)Now enter the share name for your folder, drive or file name which you want to hide with a dollar sigh ($) at the end of the name. For example elechub$ .Name can be up to 12 characters inculding $ sign.
Well you have hide shared file in windows xp completely and successfully. Now my question is How will you open Hidden shared file in Windows XP???
The folder or file will be in hidden format.This will not be visible to any user on your network. No one can access that folder until the name of folder knows.so make sure you choose a difficult name to guess if others trying to access it is an issue with you.
You can access that folder only by mapping it as a network drive.. Following steps will explain you how to open hidden shared file in windows xp:
1) First double click on My Computer and got to tools/ map network drive.
2)Now choose available drive as shown in below figure. And enter the name of the folder with dollar sigh ($) at the end.
3)Put checkmark at Reconnect at login .Which will automatically map your hidden file. And this file can be shared with every user.
4)Now click finish.
Note! If you choose not to reconnect at logon, you will have to manually re-map your share after every reboot.

1) Place your Windows XP professional CD in CD- Rom drive. If you Dont have XP cd then download XP service pack 2 installation file from softwarepatch. Extract the content of the file into a folder using WinRar.
2)Now click on start menu and open control panel.
3)Double click on Add and Remove programs to open.
4)Click Add/Remove Windows Components to install IIS .
5)Now click on IIS ( Internet information services ) to run in your system.
6)In Internet Information Services (IIS), select the check boxes for SMTP Service and World Wide Web Service, and then click OK.
7) In Windows Component selection, ensure that the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box is selected, and then click OK to install the components that you selected.
You can check your home page in your web browser by just typing “http://localhost” without qoutes in brower.
