I thought to post this as I came to know what file extensions are and how many types of file extensions exist and I have decided to share with you, as you may even require data about file extensions like me.
One fine day I brought a movie from my friend and I started playing it, but I could not able to play as it was displaying error related to xxx.VOB file and similarly an error related to xxx.DOC file, as I was not much familiar with these file extensions I started finding the solutions for the errors which I have faced.
Finally I came to knew the exact meaning of file extensions and what file extensions are, file extensions are suffix to the file name separated by (.) file extensions are the meta data, they are usually three or four letter codes at the end of file names that tell to operating systems (Windows 95/98/ME/2000,Windows XP ,Microsoft Windows Vista, ,MAC OS X, Linux and Unix operating systems ) They communicate with the operating system and they tell the type of file they are dealing.
So file extensions always start with (.). In simple means file name is the name of the person and file extension is the surname of a person
At last I had found a website which clearly defines the history of the file extensions. As this site includes a detailed database of file extensions, what they are used for, programs they are associated with, and also provides information on how to fix file extension related errors. Well I would like to call this website as file extension encyclopedia as I have said this is the only website which provides complete solution in fixing the errors related to a file by giving you the lucid information about the file extensions. Well, my error was related to .VOB file extension, after going through this website I have found out a valuable solution which says that “Windows is unable to open VOB files you may not have the appropriate program installed or may have a registry related error”. So, it recommended me to run a registry scan which helped me in solving the problem very easily, I would like to thank file extension vob and file extension doc which helped me in solving my problem.
