This is a cool trick will helps you to recover all your lost bookmarks on firefox. If you want to format your Operating System you will be formatting any one of drive. say c:\ drive. You can export the bookmark folder or location using import and export option in firefox before formatting your OS. If you find your bookmarks are important then it is better to backup your data regularly. Better copy your bookmark folder in any other drive. Because without backup you can lose your bookmarked websites any time due to virus or hard disk problem. Mozilla browsers store user data in a separate place for each user account on your computer. So always make sure always logged on to your pc only with your logon name. Follow the below steps to recover lost bookmarks on firefox 2.x and firefox 3.0
Firefox 2.x and earlier: Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> File -> Import -> from File
Firefox 3: Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Click on Import HTML -> All import bookmarks will be in HTML file
Another method to recover lost bookmarks on Firefox:
First check Recycle Bin for the file called “bookmarks.html”.
Now run the error-checking tool Chkdsk (If you are using Windows 2000, XP) or ScanDisk (for Windows 95, 98, ME users) to check if you can recover any file that contain your lost bookmarks. Search for these files FILE0001.chk or FILE0002.chk on the root directory (the files may be inside folders named FOUND.000 or similar). Now open those files in notepad and save it in .html. Why because those files will contain all your lost bookmarks. If you save it in .html you can open those bookmarks directly.
