Test your server speed And Purpose of Tracert Command.
How to test your server speed?? And what is the actual purpose of Tracert command?? Well if i ask same question to my friends they will reply ” Why not !! we can easily test our server speed by using softwares. There are many softwares which can test server speed”.. Well they are absolutely right. But we have to think about this question ” can we test server speed without any software??”
Many of my friends don’t know what is the purpose of using dos prompt. There are many utilities should be known that DOS can provide fascinating information about your Internet Connection. You can also use utilities in Windows XP through command prompt. Two utilities are located in the folder \Windows\System32 for Windows XP. So in order to use utility you need to log on to that folder via the Command Prompt (CD \windows\system32).
Acutal purpose of ping command : I use ping command to find out if a site’s server is down or responding very slowly. Just follow the steps below.
1. Connect to the Internet.
2. Now open Command Prompt. Click on Start-> Run -> Type ” cmd” or “cmd.exe” without quotes.
3. If your are using Windows XP then you must log on to your System32 folder. To do this, type CD \windows\system32 and press Enter in the Command Prompt.
4. Now type ping www.elechub.com ( subsitiute your sitename in place of elechub) and press Enter.
You will receive Request Timed Out message if your server is down or very slow. Otherwise, you will see a series of numbers as shown below. Your server takes time to respond your command. From the below figure if the number of packets sent is equal to number of packets received, then your server is up. It is working proporly. If your server is very slow then number of packets will not be equal to received packets. It shows some loss in percentage. such as 34% loss.
Purpose of Tracert Command : It is a router command which traces out the route and permits you to access a particular server. The tracert command is a command which gives you a long list of all servers you pass through on your way to your final destination.( Maximum up to 30hops- if your route is longer than that, you’re likely to give up waiting for the connection).
Just type tracert www.yoursitename.com You will see long list of servers. This indicates that your domain will pass through all these servers. If the list is big then your server is bit slow.
