Wake on Lan-Ability to switch on remote computers by sending special network packets
Wake on Lan
After showing you how to Remotely access a system in Lan from a system which is in a wan elechub comes up with a brilliant tool Wake on Lan which enables the ability to switch on remote computers by sending special network packets.Remember that this only works with motherboards and network cards which have configured already with wake on LAN. Well this is really implemented on modern motherboards by embedding ethernet controller, embedding work is to be done by manufacturers not by end users. Where as older motherboards used to have WAKEUPLINK connected to network card. so mordern computers dont need to do all this work.
Wake on LAN(WoL) is an Ethernet computer Networking standard which allows a computer to b e turned on or turn off remotely in a network. It is a tool which remotely wakes up a system or computer which is present in a network. Wake on LAN can be implemented manually or automatically by setting a time as we set time for our telvision to switch on at that particular instant of time or setting the alarm which rings at that time, so that it can wake you. In simple words its nothing but setting up alarm for yourself but here you are setting alarm to your system in lan and also you can force any of the system to wake up at any time you want. this is called as forced wake up.After surveying the websites i have found out a wake on lan tool which is very use to implement, As it can boot any system accross your virtual LAN’s.Wake up Lan tool is very easy to access and it as it extracts the system’s name, its ip, its mac address by making the user to understand which system is he going to wake up or turn off. You can simple understand how easy it is to use Wake up Lan after seeing this picture
To make this tool work on the systems in lan your system should meet the following requirements
1. 3pin wake on LAN connector on your ATX motherboard
2. ATX power supply should meet the ATX 2.0.1 specifications
3. Network card supporting your Wake on LAN
4. Dont forget to enable the Wake on Lan feature in Bios power management.
Hope you could manage this task by following the guide provided.
All The best.
